Exhaust stud repair.

After doing the starter clutch & kick starter, I re-fitted the exhaust, as you do.

Got the torque wrench onto the exhaust studs and it wouldn't tighten even on about 8 lb.ft.  Oh well, **** happens.

Any interim repair, other than helicoil?

I have a spare head that I will have serviced and fit so I can properly repair the original head.  I'm thinking weld, drill & cut a new thread might be the best method of proper repair of the original.  Then I'll have a spare good head. :)

I made a stepped m8/m6 stud for one bike when the helicoil repair pulled out. Carefully tapped m8 thread into the head - there is just about enough material to do it.
