Main bean & headlight TTR not working together
Permalink

Hiya, I have a 99 TTR, trying to get ready for MOT, last job is the headlight/main beam, I can get both to work by altering the bulb's location, but cant get a setting where both the headlight and main beam work at the flick of the switch. If I get the main beam to work, flick the switch and the headlight wont come on, then vice versa. Am I missing something? the bulb is a double element, works as mentioned above, just not by flicking the switch up and down. I have cleaned the switch and checked that all wires are connected, seems ok. Help

On a TTR, the headlight is permanently on, either dipped beam or main beam depending on the position of the rocker switch on the left side. The 3 wires to the bulb are earth, main beam feed and dipped beam feed. I suspect one filament in the bulb has failed.
Test the power coming down the main and dip wires with a test light (earth back to battery, not the bulb's earth wire) to be sure. Only one will have power at any one time. If ok, then test using the bulb's earth wire. If all this checks out, it can only be the bulb (or a damaged bulb holder) If not, you have a broken wire.
Good luck.

And welcome to the forum!
