Surging at part throttle, air leak?

Hi all, got my 1994 OE out of winter slumber & it has a sort of surge or uneven running at low/part throttle. Fresh fuel, well warmed up, pulls cleanly(ish) through rev range, ticks over fine. I've had this problem before & nver got to the bottom of it. Bike has snorkel mod, shorty header & exhaust from Steve. I can't see perishing on the rubber tube between carb & head & everything is up tight. Problem there warm & cold but if anything seems worse when warmed up. Checked drive side by running with looser & tighter chain but no significant difference so think it is definitely engine surging. Any thoughts on what to try next? Thanks!

Partially blocked pilot jet? Doesn't take much to clog them

mine never sits very long, but i splash a bit of carby cleaner in the tank occasionally, and don't have to clean the carb with the crap fuel we get these days .
