Transmission shift drum bearing

I have a shift drum bearing that is badly contaminated with aluminium swarf. Anyone know how to change it? How does the star wheel come off the end to pull the bearing off?

I can't see it mentioned in my manual at all!

I see what you mean Simon. It looks like the bearing is fitted and then the "star" welded on in which case it would get messy grinding off the weld, cleanin/replacing the bearing and welding the start back on no

Parts fiche suggests it is not replaceable - whole drum only. Luckily Steve has a used one with a good bearing. I will investigate further with the scrap one later... The star has to be orientated exactly or changing gear smoothly might not happen! Wonder if there is some sort of spline?
