Brian Its been nice riding with you over the years we have all been clocking up the miles and age and time catches up with everyone. And boots have to be hung up at some point

Mine came about 4 years ago when I was diagnosed with MS. I gave up riding and driving and bought a mobility scooter.

I smashed my first scooter in a big way and the replacement has now clocked 2,500 miles since November 2021.

Slowly getting there. wink

Sorry to hear this.
It’s not an over indulgence of Pasties is it ?
I’m only 8 months younger than you and I’ve got no intention of hanging up the Boots yet but I’ve still got very good health going on.
I bought a 1980/81 Montesa Cota 200 about a year ago and have been tidying that up.
The tidy-up has finished now and I’m in the process of trying to learn how to ride it.
Getting up to the standing position from the seat is tough but I think it’s a matter of under-used Thighs !
It’s easy to do it on the TTR but the Cota’s seat is a much lower.
I think someone on the Forum says something like “You are never too old to learn to try something stupid.”

That's a sad day for you but I bet you could tell a fair few tales of your time on the little ttrs!

I hope you are still able to enjoy your road bikes? Luckily there's plenty of nice rides to be had in your part of the world :)

I am in my early 70s now but have heart issues - and a fear of breaking bones!

After selling the 350, I will still have a Kawasaki W800 road bike, which I love, a BSA C15 restoration which is nearing completion, and a 1955 BSA Golden Flash 650cc twin.

My brother Trev has a similar Kawasaki, a W650 and we do a bit of road riding where the destination is usually a cafe of some sort, preferably one that serves good pasties wink We have intercoms which make all the difference to my enjoyment of the ride. I am almost hoarse by the end of the day!

The Golden Flash will start first time every time if you get a good swing on the kickstart but, sadly my right knee is knackered and, if I don't get it first time then it’s a struggle. I haven't mastered the left leg kick So that one is up for sale also.

I will be lurking around here for a long time yet so it's not goodbye biggrin

Brian, I'm sorry and sad to hear that you and Trev are hanging up your trail riding boots. I have just done exactly that myself and sold my beloved TTR. I have been riding motorbikes for 44+ years and trail riding on and off since the early 80's, I will now continue to ride and enjoy various road bikes, old Brits, modern Japanese and even an old HD! Motorcycling is a wonderfully social pastime and there is much fun to be had with gentle ride outs to meet up with friends for breakfasts, coffee, ice cream etc. I wish you and Trev all the very best for your future riding years and thank you for all you have done and written about in the brilliant TTR250 community it has made my five years of TTR ownership all the more pleasurable. Sad to hear but there is a time when we need to call it a day, I sold my Thruxton a few weeks back but bought another ebike, having plenty of fun on that, so as long as we are happy & safe that's all that matters.
