Hi, recently bought a 1998 TTR 250, been stood around for a few years. Its developed a carb issue very quickly which is driving me mad, so hoping someone can help!
A little diagnostic history......
After getting her home she started up first time and runs really sweet. So after checking her over I took her for a ride around, covered about 6 miles before she died on me - felt like the fuel had run out, so did the usual checks (spark, fuel etc) couldn't get her going so pushed her a mile home!
Felt like it was going to be dirt in the carb, so stripped it off and cleaned every jet and hole with carb cleaner, rebuilt and she started and ran really well, however after about 5 mins she cut out and would not start again - seemed like no fuel (checked spark)
Thought maybe a float jet issue so stripped carb again and took float jet out, cleaned/checked and rebuilt, again it started and ran but after 5 mins it cuts out and will not start.
I have looked at the tips of how to strip and rebuild the carb from the maintenance notes in the files and have stripped and rebuilt some 4 times with the same outcome.
I always check for a spark, and free flowing fuel from the tank, check the fuel cap is not causing a vacuum etc, so running out of ideas....
Has anyone had this issue?
Is there a replacement carb available to buy that fits if I decide to replace it?
Thanks for that, I've bought a new coil as I was starting to think along the same route....is the Stator the same thing or is that located under the seat? Do you know if there's anyway to test it?
I'll see if it makes any difference
