Gday from australia, I just bought a 2005 TTR250 a few hours ago and look forwards to learning about them.

I come from a sportsbike background but Im getting a bit older and my body doesnt bend like a coathanger anymore so I got rid of the sportsbike and thought I would have some fun touring around the bush instead (slowly lol)

Ive only ridden my ttr about a hour but hope to do some more tomorrow

Cheers guys :)   I had my first bush ride today and had great fun although I learned I absolutely have no idea about bush riding techniques lol :)

Yep I love my mancave Martyn :)  (I have a couple other sheds as well so kept this one purely for me)  Its even got a kitchen sink hahahah but the most important thing would have to be the coffee machine I think hahahahha (put a 360 degree sphere photo in as well but not sure if they work here)

Anyways - Cheers for the welcomes :) Hope everybodys having a awesome Christmas

Found out today that the gear lever on my bike had been welded to the gear shaft...after the welds broke a hour into a ride and the gear shifter just started spinning on the gear shaft instead of selecting gears lol.

I got stuck in 5th gear but limped home about 20km to effect a repair and then headed out again this arvo to test the repair. sofar so good :)

Im getting alot better in sand the last day or so (by alot better I mean Im no longer in 1st gear paddling the feet along at walking speed hahahah  - usually Im standing on the pegs now and starting to get used to the throttle being used to get around corners a little bit)

Having a blast

Great photos Daniel - thank you for posting wink

If a gear lever is left loose for any length of time then the splines will get damaged. Welding the gear lever on is a quick and dirty solution. Not an uncommon "repair" as to replace the shaft requires a full strip down of the engine and splitting the crankcases.

What are the concrete triangles for?

Cheers Brian - Yeah the splines damaged a bit. I ended up getting a cutting disc on a anglegrinder and making the gap bigger on the gear selector lever where it surrounds the gearbox spline - so the locking bolt pulls the gear lever tighter against the spline...I also drilled out the holes so the lock bolt no longer threads into the gear lever itself - the bolts now "loose" - and I ran nuts instead and cranked them right down so the gear selecter is grabbing the spline tighter than was possible from original (hopefully it holds until shops open for another weld lol sofar sogood)

The triangles are there to stop tanks they are called "tank traps". Old ones can be seen along stockton beach NSW Australia to stop the japanese invading back in the day with their tanks apparently lols. I think they redesigned some of stockton beach carpark etc and removed some tank traps and dumped them here to stop 4x4's I guess not sure

Back in the late 1970’s my Wife and I crossed the Border from West Germany into East Germany, on the way into Berlin.
These things were call “Dragon’s Teeth” in those days and they were at the Border, in huge numbers.
What a great experience that day was in our lives.
Border crossings, Border Police treating you as of you were sh#t, Vehicle Searches, Passports thrown around as if they meant nothing, money changing hands without receipts, etc
The East German Police were driving Ladas, Wartburgs and Skodas but they still probably had “The drop on us” in our 1967 VW Kombi Campervan (Devon Conversion).
Where we camped in West Berlin, we were parked within 5 metres of the Berlin Wall.
Ah, those were the “Good Old Days !”
Covid = pussy stuff !
🤪

At that time, I also traveled from Poland to West Germany. It was very difficult to get a visa and a long wait. I saw what Jeff write about. And since I was driving a Mercedes 207 D, I was also suspected and checked. Most of the time, I do not carry vodka.

I think I should apologise for my Covid remark because there might be people out there who have suffered badly under it, or have lost friends and family members.
Sorry 🤭🙁

Never occured to me Jeff until you mentioned it, kinda sad world we live in when you have to apologise for a bit of "aussie style" banter maybe upsetting somebody as they take everything so seriously these days - wheres the humour gone in the world?

Everybody seems so ready and waiting to become offended these days just so they can over-react and chuck a tantrum...its crazy IMO....no apology needed for me mate I took it in the context it was given - a lighthearted comparison not meant to offend anybody :)

I hear you mate but Covid can be a fairly divisive subject.

That is a great looking garage you have there.
We might have to have a competition for the best garage set-up for a TTR.
I can’t easily see a Beer Fridge in yours so there would be a deduction of points, if you don’t have one !
An Aussie, without a Beer Fridge in his garage, would almost be a hanging offence !
Hehe

A mans gotta have a mancave hahahha. Heres some photos but I havnt got any real current ones. I got a coffee machine/sink/bbq/fridge/computer/tv/lounge/convection microwave (oven and microwave also) and spitroaster in here with a dart board but i want a pool table as well at some stage. I have x2 other sheds so i commandered this one. shed 2 has some chooks in there and storage/clothesline for wet weather - the chooks have a dog door they use for their own backyard behind the sheds. shed 3 is more storage. Some of its smart stuff. (eg my shed light flashes red between 7-9am if the predicted windspeed is too high for kayak fishing on weekends etc so i dont have to check weather lols, sprinklers come on automatically - airconditioner monitors outside temperature and can set it to turn on automatically when im close to home etc)

Oh jeez, I can’t go anywhere near that !
That light that turns on to tell you the weather is too crappy for Kayak Fishing, is way too cool.
If that small fridge has beer in it, it can be classified as a “Beer Fridge.”
Great Ryobi Collection.
The Chooks look healthy. 🍗😋
A Pool Table will top things off nicely but they do cause a lot of arguments, especially when beer is involved, unless you set out the Rules - Your Garage - Your Table - Your Rules !
Air Conditioning in a garage - nar, that’s just too much, I surrender !
Your TTR is a very lucky bike to “live” in such an environment.
Hey, I spot a slip-up. Why isn’t the TV on re-runs of the Aussie Cricketers dealing to England ?! 😬
Hehe and Happy New Year to you and everyone in the TTR World

Rigged up a "always hooked up" water gurney today to the hose reel i got on the shed wall should make washing the bike off after rides a bit faster than unravelling all that water hose all the time :)   Happy New years all :)     (PS if you like the kayak light smart routine - you would get a laugh at my security camera that if it detects humans after 1am in my yard it starts recording, turns all the house lights onto flash mode  - and turns the spearpoint irrigation sprinklers on - thats x6 impact sprinklers of stinky bore water lols -  it also turns the radio on all inside and outside speakers loud enough to wake the dead probably hahahha - reminds me - i might disable that one for this weekend got some beer drinkin to do tonight with the brother inlaw lol)
