A mot question, was wondering if anyone had come across.

Fork seals are generally covered by rubber gaitors and hidden, to inspect them the tester would have to release the clip to do this.

Never had an issue but never known a tester to do this, looks like the seals are overlooked

Precisely, the tester does not have the right to dismantle - only inspect.

That's the beauty of hiding a defect that may fail.

You will have to meet the crunch sometime though, if you keep the bike long enough.

As long as there is no oil seeping out or visible you will get away with it.

Interesting, on a bike without ribbed gaiters that had a leaky seal would be deemed dangerous on the fail sheet.

Here is a link to the motorcycle MOT test manual if you want to look at the exact wording of the guidance MOT inspection manual: motorcycles - Guidance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)  MOT testers are only humans so there is bound to be a degree of interpretation.

Yes it indicates a gaiter or rubber cover can be pulled back if possible without damage etc, that's not going to happen on a TTR.

Not complaining, buys a bit more time to get repaired without holding up an mot.

If the sealing is seriously broken its you who want to repair it to get back a proper fork. The Inspector only cares if Oil is able to drip on the brake / road / tire and its good that he check that. If you like yourself, fix it :)
