Went for a Ride to Raglan, on the West Coast of New Zealand’s North Island, recently and am posting a couple of photos.
Haven‘t done a Forum Message from the start for a few years so hope I’ve got it right.
It was my last long “Legal Ride” before my Road Tax goes onto “hold” for the Winter months. As a Pensioner, the cost of paying the Tax for 5 months of “not a lot of riding because of the weather and temperatures“ is a big saving. You can see that the light is getting abit dark - that is the Winter Light in NZ.
Raglan is a great little town and is a Worldwide Surfing Mecca and was in the iconic Surfing Movie “The Endless Summer.” Google it. The second photo shows the Surfing Spots “Indicators” and “Whale Bay.” Both we’re breaking at about 15’ at the time. There are several more “breaks” around to the right of the photo.
The route to Raglan from Auckland (Home) was sealed all the way so I used my wheels with the Bridgestone Trail Wing tyres as they were good enough. Save the Michelin AC10s for more unsealed rides. There is another route to “Rags” that is unsealed and will do that next Summer with a mate on his WR250.
The North Island doesn’t have the Trails like the South, which has many old Coach Roads and Gold Miners Roads/Tracks. We recently did a tour of the South Island in our Jeep Renegade 4x4 and did some of the trails down there - amazing ! It’s a different Country. Have done one tour down there on “URI” (Note the Number Plate on my TTR) and one photo from that trip is my “signature.” The day after that photo, I ran into a bank on a particularly nasty trail (Mountain Bikers rate is as a Black Trail) and ripped the muscles in my shoulder. All good now and after this year’s Jeep Trip am tempted to have another go at the South.
The Front Pipe is a Stainless Steel Shorty Front Pipe from the Totally TTRs Shop. I got it sent out several years ago and it didn’t cost much in freight. I clean it with Autosol a couple of times a year and that keeps it looking good.
Thanks for the “looking mint” comment. I rub the plastics with silicone once a year and that brings up the blue really well and makes it easy to clean when it does get dirty.
