Got the TTR out on Sunday for a ride in steep bush in Blackwood (Vic). Rode with a couple of blokes on new Beta 4 strokes, a 350 and a 450. Lots of technical single track and big hills and slippery clay . The TTR kept up no worries at all, actually outclimbed them a couple of times on the loose rocky hills. New tyres might have helped!!
Glad to see you getting some good rides. I'm sure the smooth power delivery of the ttr (even with your mods) will work better than the big Beta motors on loose rocky stuff, not to mention rider skill of course

I try and ride more in the cooler months summer gets a bit hot and dusty good for road bikes!!. Re the power delivery smooth is definitely easier when grip is limited and the Beta 350 (which is a smooth motor) seemed to do the hills noticeably easier than the big 450. Sometimes less is more.
Great, it looks like it was a typical Summer's day in Devon.

Was actually a good winters day for riding, cool and overcast, mist up on top of the hills but no rain during the ride. Thats coming tonight for the next few days
350 is the Goldilocks motor size - not too big, not too small
Back when I had the first XR250RC my mate had a XR350RD (disc front & drum rear) was a nice bike, pretty small from memory. I had a XR400 before the TTR & the engine was a ripper...really nice power.
A mate now has a SWM350 enduro, very light with nice power so I agree a 350cc would be the best of both worlds & if Yamaha was smart they would bring out a WR350R !!!! Hey I remember the TT250 & TT350's, even Honda had a XL350 & SL350 back in the 80's
