My engine is overheating,I can feel alot of heat coming from the right hand side. The bike has oil( fresh oil I just changed rescently), the same oil I have been using ever since I acquired it.
The heat becomes unbearable to an extent have to ride with my leg far apart from the footpeg. What could be wrong?
Assuming the oil is circulating properly (and the bike would have seized by now I think if it wasn't!) the only cause for overheating I can think of is fuel. A lean mixture (either from a blocked carb jet or a free flowing exhaust system being fitted without modifying (enlarging) the jets) causes the combustion temperatures to rise. Eventually burning out the top of the piston and burning a big hole in your pocket!
Alternatively, if it is just the header pipe getting hot it could be fuel burning in the pipe due to an over rich mixture instead.
What does the spark plug look like?
Exhaust gas leaking from a fracture round the heat shield bolt blowing hot gasses straight onto your knee?
I haven't changed the spark plug in a while but I will have to examine it further. I will also clean the carb to to rule out the blocked jet.
No exhaust gas leaking, just feeling alot of heat on my leg close to the foot peg. The bike is also smoking abit. I need to change the valves seals or piston rings or both.
