Identifying a key
Permalink

today I went into a Yamaha shop with the intention of getting a spare key cut for my 2002 aus blue ttr. The lady where said that there are 5 different types keys that they have to cut. I don’t know what type key my bike is. I’d there a way to identify if it is A, B, C, D or E key without taking the key barrel apart? Thank you!!biggrin

I am sorry but I don't know the type of key for the blue TTRs although all the ones I have seen seem to be the same shape/design.

I am presuming you have one of the original keys to have taken in for copying?

If you have the key number it should be possible just to order a new one with the number. I have done that several times in the UK.

See https://ttr250.activeboard.com/t50236179/removing-ignition-barrel-and-finding-the-ignition-key-code-n/ for how to get the key number. You need good eyesight wink

No I don’t have the key number/ code. That’s what’s difficult about it.

if you have a key as a copy you can just go in to a cobblers (shoe repairers ) and ask them to cut you a key they should be able to do it there and then

to print a key they need a blank key to put the pattern onto. There are 5 different blanks. i need to know what blank i need. if i don't have the same blank as my key it wont fit in the barrel. I will look at the barrel for my key number and sort it out from there. Thanks for the help though.smile
