Suggested Tools and Distance for Spark Plug Gap on TTR250
Permalink

Okay! My "new" 2011 TTR250 is arriving in a few days, and I'm sorting out what tools I need for the workshop. What would you guys suggest? It's been a long time since I've owned a bike, and suggested tools for the 250 would be appreciated.

Also, what gap have you got set on your TTR250?

Cheers

NGK are pre-gapped at 0.8mm. Never bothered to change them.

There is a gap tool that you could get at any automotive store. It's like a coin with a progressive ramp around the circumference.

Otherwise,

A new sump plug - not the genuine pos.
Metric sockets and/or spanners 8mm to 22mm. Ratchet ring spanners are a pretty good choice over stardard ring spanner.
Having just read the sump plug thread, someone mentioned Metrinch sockets or 6 point sockets rather than normal 12 point ones.Allen keys 4mm to 12mm
Torque wrench that does to around 20 Nm
Torque wrench that does to around 100 Nm

Tyre spoons / levers

Couple of different pliers
Phillips (No. 1,2 & 3 should go close) & flat drivers.

Heat gun
Multimeter
Dremel
Copper Slip or similar thread lubricant - use widely.
Locktite for small threads and, a thread sealant.
Contact cleaner
Carb cleaner or brake cleaner
Couple of car style axle stands or, something that you can stand the bike on to get the wheels out. Plastic milk crate isn't tall enough (bad luck you KLR650 riders).                  Metric taps and dies 5mm, 6mm, 8mm & 10mm.  I can't recall of 5mm is anywhere on the bike but I know I've used them recently.  Just can't recall which bike(s).

I went through mine and tried to make as many of the fasteners cap head (allen keys) as I could.  Only used hex head where I would have found difficulty in getting an allen key into the head of the bolt. Like the middle exhaust clamp.

I'll come back later with a snap of my on bike took kit.

I carry a new spare plug (NGK CR9E) & an assembly of sockets and drivers to reach the plug.

Axles are handled by the TotallyTTRs ring spanner.

Tyre repair stuff - glues, patches, roller & hand pump go in a separate bag. I've been carrying this around for years on different bikes.  Tubes are too big to do anything other than put them in where they will fit.

Evidence that I can actually change a tyre.  One of my mates gave me the tip - hair conditioner.  Works brilliantly.  Must add a small bottle of that to the kit.
