Recently purchased my 01 TTR250 was a bit abused but got for a good deal. Having 0 experience with mechanics or dirtbikes in general looking to connect with others to help out with issues I might have. Any help is always useful. Looking forward to meeting everyone, from what I have already seen everyone is awesome and helps other to enjoy the riding experience.

Taking bike to dads for weekend of riding, i went through the carb as best i could with a friend that help me out alot. The post holding the (float pin I believe) is broken so might be causing some of my issues. Bike wouldn't idle and has a lot of hesitation. Acc pump needs replacing, already ordered from STEVE as well as rebuild kit. Runs for now but want to dive more into after the new year

But now thinking about it, just getting a new carb? From what i see might have to make some modifications or adaptions to fit another carb in. Also my issues if throttle setup (which one to look at? flat slide or round) and moving throttle cables to opposite side.  Just overall inexperience but really wanting to learn and enjoy the concept of using my hands on mechanical things (have worked constructions and sports, not a car guy or mechanically inclined)

Any help is super useful

Welcome Chris.

You should be able to repair the carb float pin post with JB Weld "SteelStik" epoxy.  This epoxy can be shaped by filing and drilling after it cures.  I repaired a carb a year ago with SteelStik and it is still working fine.  Make sure repair area is clean and dry.  Brake cleaner works well.  I used a round tapered toothpick as a form in place of the metal pin and removed it before the epoxy cured.  Make sure the toothpick form hole is the same size or a bit smaller than the float pin diameter.  You can always drill the hole to a larger diameter.

I would also recommend rebuilding the carb with the All-Balls rebuild kit.  Also a good idea to replace the accelerator pump diaphragm and both O-rings.

its also good to make sure the fuel feed to the choke is clear.  There is a small hole in the float bowl at the bottom of the choke fuel feed hole that tends to clog and prevent the choke from working as it should.  This hole can be cleared with a bread twist tie wire.  You can test to see if the hole is clear by filling the choke fuel feed hole with water or gas and it should fully empty into the float bowl in 5-10 seconds.  If it is clogged or drains very slowly, add some carb cleaner to the float bowl and in the hole and let it soak for a day.  Then you should be able to clear the hole with the twist tie wire.

Thanks Jeff B. Will definitely look into repairing the post.
If I wanted to just replace the whole carb which one would be preferred?
Checked the choke and cleared like you described, and idle is way betrer. Thank you.

Orded the All Balls Rebuild kit and diaphragm 2 weeks ago should be in pretty soon.
Looking forward to diving more into it and familiarizing myself with the bike.

If your float post repair is unsuccessful, that looks like a possible cheap option as an alternative carb, but might need some different jets to the ones Kaos uses if your engine is more standard.
