Looking for Help with V5C recovery

Hi guys. Can someone help mi to recover v5 from dvla after last owner of my bike send it to make correction but marked up bike as exported.

They don't want to give v5 back, they sending me to export department but I don't know how to do in cases like this.

 

Can anybody help? I can do a call for better explain.

All this was happen in UK, guy (which has made an advertisement also here in forum) who sell and send me a bike to Poland after I discover a mistake in it sends V5C to make correction in VIN number, but unfortunately mention about that bike is in Poland.

They set up that bike was exported and now I don't have any V5C which I can use for register my TTR here in Poland. They took V5C which was sended to them.

DVLA don't want to provide new V5C with correct VIN, they don't want to provide anything.

This is a worst scenario which can happen to me :( because I can't register ttr here without V5C

Konrad, sounds like you have a tricky situation to sort. Here are some links to the UK DVLA site for information that you might find useful in your quest.

It sounds like your scenario will require you to contact both your own vehicle registration office and write to our DVLA with a carefully detailed explanation of why the V5c didn't come with the bike when you bought it in the hope that they can agree a way forward for you. Unless of course the seller is prepared to contact DVLA to assist in getting things sorted for you as he should have given you the V5c and just notified DVLA with a tear off slip. Is there any reason they hadn't sorted the incorrect details with DVLA before selling you the bike? Sounds a bit iffy! I hope for you that DVLA return the corrected document to the seller to forward to you (fingers crossed) but that could take some time with the Covid situation. I take it you didn't have sight of the V5c to check it or take a copy?

Looking at another scenario, who was the official exporter the seller or you as that makes a difference.

The advice contained within the DVLA links is just that and of course is open to interpretation so be wary of any forum advice (including mine) as it is just opinion and the only people who can give a definitive answer here in the UK will be the DVLA staff. I of course have no knowledge at all of how things work your side.

Hopefully the seller will help you, have you been in contact with them?

They could explain that they made a mistake,  to the dvla, get a new v5 a send it to you.

Hi guys
Thanks for any advice, in details I received bike with V5C. But unfortunately there was a mistake in this document. So I and seller decided that I will send back V5C to UK, he (seller) sends V5C to correct VIN number on it, and send me back proper V5C. That was the plan for it. I don't know what seller do, he told me that I need to wait. So I was waiting couple of months and week ago he send me an info that there is nothing what he can do for me now.

I think that he do something, that DVLA won't provide V5C now because bike was marked as exported. He don't respond now to my correspondence, I called DVLA but they telling only that bike was exported, they don't provide any V5C to me.

I have a copy of old V5C with translation in law to Polish but this document has wrong vin number.

Disaster! I think your only hope is finding a frame with V5, (I've seen your wanted ad so you are already looking) or restamp the headstock of your bike with the number written on the V5 you have! You can also purchase VIN plate blanks and add your own number to that. Of course, this is a dodgy way of doing things, and you risk having the bike (or at least the frame) confiscated if your registration office is aware that you have already tried registering once, and works out it's the same bike.

I don't really believe the DVLA would change the VIN number on the document - this is the fundamental identifier of the bike. They would demand an inspection and issue a new V5 and new age related number plate (registration) once you proved no import duties were due (when it entered the UK), provided proof of age, and got an MOT (roadworthiness) test - this is the normal procedure for a previously unidentified, or newly imported, vehicle.

I suspect the seller has got tangled up in this process, and/or is not telling the whole truth, and is now hoping the whole problem will just go away.

Konrad, sounds like you have exhausted your practical options with DVLA and the seller over here but good that you at least have a copy of the V5c.

Is the engine number correct on the paperwork and was the vin number completely wrong or just out by a couple of digits? My thoughts are that if engine number is correct and vin only slightly wrong then you might have a better chance getting your registration office to accept that it is a genuine import (albeit with a small mistake on the paperwork) and simply correct the details when they produce the new documents for you. Though I guess they may not accept copy paperwork under any circumstances.

There certainly would be cost and a lot of work to buy and change the frame but would that leave you any better off as you would only have a receipt for the frame not the whole bike, would your registration office accept that any easier?

Also compared to the cost and work to change the frame how would that compare to the cost of paying whatever taxes would have to be paid for a 'new' registration if that is indeed possible? We have (or did have) a Q plate system over here for registering a vehicle of undetermined age which was much cheaper that first registering as 'new'.

Feeling your pain and frustration and just trying to reason through some alternative options for you.

Hi Guys
Just a small update, TTR need to get back to UK for examination and register again under UK's address to UK resident. This is more complicated now after Brexit. I have a friend near London who will help me to proceed on this case but it take a lot of money and time. Updates to follow for those who intrested in. Cheers!
