Idle but dies when given gas - Newbie owner- 2006TTR250

2006TTR 250, set for a couple years in friends garage, was given to me.  I cleaned carb and changed oil and air filter and put a new battery in it, it would run on idle with the choke pulled out but would die upon giving any amount of throttle.  I bought and replace all new jets and still the same issue.  it runs super hot, the head pipe turns red in a matter of minutes.  Any suggestions on what else could be the issue?

Your symptoms are indicative of a blocked pilot jet but you say you replaced all the jets?

Less likely with such a recent TTR but, nevertheless, a possibilty is that the rubber has separated from the aluminium section of the inlet stub that sits between the carb and the head.

I remember I had this problem quite a few years ago and Brian pointed me to a drain screw on the carb which fixed the problem completely.

@TTRfan   I did replace all jets.  I also had to replace that intake boot you are speaking of because it had become weak and was torn.  I did all of this at the same time.  I did all of this prior to finding this board.  I just can't get my head around it, it will start and run perfectly while just sitting there idling but you can not give it any fuel or it will die.  As it sets there idling the head pipe starts getting lava read hot..

What size jets are you running and how many turns out is the pilot screw?

Also, is your air filter clean and lightly oiled, and have you done any airbox mods or put on an open exhaust?

If it isn't a carb problem, it may be worth taking the tank and camshaft cover off to check the timing chain hasn't jumped any teeth plus check the valve clearances whilst you are in there wink

With the engine at TDC (single line - not the double), the camshaft sprockets should look like this.
