I fitted new D606 tyres to the TTR the other day, wife was busy today so perfect time to take the TTR out, headed out from home & hit the dirt ( 7kms from here) Airstrip rd leads out through Mt Crawford forest, did a loop through to Cudlee creek ( the huge bushfire started there in Dec.) rode at least 80kms in areas that were burnt, it burnt a huge area with around 100 houses destroyed. Little bit of blacktop, gravel roads & summer tracks. Summer tracks are also known as DRY WEATHER ROADS & you may see the sign DRY WEATHER ONLY signs but they are the best on a dirt bike.
The new D606 tyres were good & as I found on the previous set my TTR has a little understeer during turn in on the loose gravel, I can put up with this & ok once you get used to it, just don't jump from the WRR onto the TTR & expect it to turn the same...I have tried to overcome this without any luck so far.
I stopped at Birdwood for a coffee & a pie, then out into the Barossa wine area & back home around 160kms all up, not real warm but it was dry at least. I still enjoy riding the TTR when I have grip & today was good. I think I will keep the TTR on D606 Dunlops, the rear is a 120/90 x 18 so less risk of a pinch flat but a **** of a tyre to fit, MT21's are much easier.
Had the camera running today so will post some video from today later, they are uploading as I type this, hey I can bore you again & as I retired this time last week I have time on my hands apart from the shopping, housework, grandkids etc. But no work stress ( bonus ) I was a service manager for 25yrs.
This road was very close to where the fire started & runs from blacktop to blacktop, several houses were lost along this road, they are still replacing fences along here
