I'm new here and looking to buy a ttr at the moment.
One worry that I have is that I have nowhere to keep the bike apart on the street outside where I live. I'm in Brighton, theft here is not super high but it happens.
In the last 10 years I always kept my bikes outside, but with dual sport it somehow feels less safe to do so.
I'm I just imagining things? What are your thoughts?
As Steve says, a couple of locks is a good idea but I used to use a lamp/telegraph post and a chain round the post and through the back wheel and drive chain with a tight fitting lock.
Make sure further by putting the steering lock on as well.
There is an article in this CLICKYlink with advice.
Thanks fellas.
I always used alarm disc lock and heavy chain, never had any theft attempts, but bikes would be 200kg or heavier. Ttr is fairly light, I guess that's what makes it so vulnerable, in my head at least.
Thanks for the replies
Definitely chain it TO something. Robin Webb had his bike lifted from outside his office window in your home town in broad daylight. They are scum of the earth, but lazy - if it's too much effort they move to an easier target. A cover sheet might reduce the attention it receives too.
Yes get a cover. Heavy chain and lock, with the lock secured above the floor so it can't be struck with a hammer. Route the chain through the cover so it can be lifted. Add another lock such as one of those Oxford alarm type locks to the other end and again secure above ground if possible and make it visible. Yellow Oxford alarm locks make a nice angry tone if disturbed. Also leave in a open-ish area so thieves can't try and break your locks undisturbed. Make sure to secure to a large immovable object.
