Good news - the TTR350 is now MOTd (with no advisories) and taxed. I got a tad wet in the process as the weather here this morning in Devon, UK, is not the best no I just need some dry weather now to put some running in miles on it!

The choke is now working fine - I think the little hidden jet in the float bowl had blocked somehow confuse

The TTR started first time and runs very smoothly and ticks over nicely. Will do a plug check when I have had a dry run out on it.

Great news Brian. I wouldn't expect any advisories on a bike of yours! Tricky little buggers these carbs. Doesn't take much does it?

Just a quick update to reassure everyone that I am still alive and that the 350 is running great!

I have only put on a measly 150 miles since the build so am getting close to here I can start to give it throttle occasionally. So far I have been limiting myself to 40mph but will up that a bit now.

The torque is really impressive which confirms what the other 350 builders have found wink

Really glad another 350 is alive!
I saw somewhere that the new barrel should be sprayed. Sprayed with paint on the fins? Can you elaborate on this Brian since my kit is on the way?

Hi Christos.

I think there are at least six 350s up and running at the moment with more being built wink

I chose to spray my barrel so that it matched the colour of the cases and head a little more closely.

I hope your kit arrives with you soon!

You can leave the fins bare metal or paint them: as Brian has done - with colour coded matching paint to look as original as possible, mine (number 1) is satin black, and I sprayed another with silver. Some clear high temp engine lacquer would protect the aluminium if your roads are salty in the winter but you don't want to colour it.
Make sure you mask the surfaces that the gaskets touch (head and base) - it's only the external surface that should be painted.

Just a quick post to say that I am still alive and well and have so far dodged the flippin' virus smile I am waiting (im)patiently for my jab which I hope will be very soon!

England went into a third lockdown on January 3rd and no recreational motoring is allowed so the 350 is gathering dust awaiting the lift of restrictions. This may not be for several weeks yet but I promise that, as soon as I am allowed, I will finish running in the 350 and feedback how I find it wink

Stay safe everyone and, as Captain Sir Tom said, it will pass!

Brian did you leave the same jets in the carb? My 350 is ready and I would like to use your setup as reference. I left the same jets and now I have to twist the throttle a bit to start the motor.

Hi Christos. I am running a 137 main, a 48 pilot, with the needle in the middle notch with a TwinAir filter, no airbox mods and a free-flowing Totally TTRs exhaust.

We are still in lockdown so I haven't been able to properly check the mixture using the AFR I have installed. However, a few initial runs suggested that my jetting is about right.

I also had issues with cold starting and found the tiny choke jet in the float bowl was blocked. I cleared it and the choke works fine now wink

I managed to get a decent run out on the TTR today to collect meds and do some essential shopping.

Sadly the pharmacy and the nearest Sainsbury are a long way apart wink

Lest anyone is concerned at the gubbins on the handlebars, it's an AFR kit that I am using to check I got the jetting right.

I forgot that I wasn't on my BSA A10 (RH gear change) so went the wrong way through the box at the lights and ended up in 6th. I still managed to pull away. The torque is amazing.smile

A few more running in miles done and it was just great to be out despite the weather being grey and miserable biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

 Never mind doing wheelies, how about anybody who has a right shift English bike getting a TTR gearbox mixed up!! biggrinbiggrin

Great that you got out, how long before the restrictions are lifted ? BTW the TTR is looking pretty good ATM, I guess you have plenty of time to tidy her up.

Apart from the small video of you starting it and some photos, have you got any updates from now? Love hear your thoughts on how the bike is now. ( I am going to do the same conversion, thanks for all your info)

Hi Mike!

I had forgotten I had started this thread!

I have used the 350 on a few trail rides and to go to the shops and nothing remarkable to report. The bike starts and runs smoothly. It also restarts well when hot and pulls like a train!

I think the best test was Liam's race on his 350 - see here

Thanks Brian, I am keen to carry out the same on mine as soon as the kits are available again.
Was it necessary to change all of the bearings like you did or was that just a precaution?

I did it as a precaution. The bearings that came out were all fine. As a minimum I would change the main bearings and the transmission out put bearing but you will never have a better opportunity to replace the rest.....

The 350 engine has covered nearly 500 trail miles faultlessly so far.

I did a nearly 100 mile trail ride around Dartmoor with some mates on Tuesday and a lot of it was quite tricky technical going but still managed to return 64mpg which I am happy with.

I know from the AFR test that it is running rich but better that then lean wink

Sadly Dave retired a while ago. I think Barum Engineering in Barnstaple do the job using a courier. Details might be on the main 350 thread.

Can anyone advise please.
I am looking to powder coat the POT and possible the cases whilst there out. Does anyone know what the RAL code is for the powder (existing engine colour) and the finish (i.e. semi gloss etc)

I am pretty sure we don't know the RAL code. Look at the powder coaters available colours and use the closest wink

The TTR350 has now been sold and is, at this very moment, on its way to Worcester with its new owner Jeff. I do hope he enjoys it as much as I have done.
