1996 ttr250 plastic intake/carb sleeve issue
Permalink

Hi all. I now own a 1996 ttr250 and I really like it. I do have an issue with it tho. There is a black plastic sleeve that connects the carb to the head. I've noticed that it looks perished and bits falling off it. (On the head side) the engine ticks over okay but eventually it will make a big POP then cut out. I'm sure it's the sleeve letting unmeasured air in. Anyway, I've managed to crack one of the hex bolts off. (Left side) but the one on the other side has rounded! And is not easy accessed to get anything else on there to try undo it. Could someone give any suggestions to try and get this off so I can replace the sleeve. Thanks guys

Hi Tom and welcome to the forum!

You could try this method:

The intake stub isn't cheap! See https://totallyttrs.com/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Products/TTR-0054

But it's vital to the smooth running of your TTR for it to be airtight wink

I have a Chinese inlet stub in the shed as a spare

My original had started to flex a bit so I put a cable tie around it and it's never moved since.  I think it's the intake pulses that make it swell / contract with the support of the cable tie it doesn't move .

The originals are pricey but work 100% I'd prob put a tie around the new one to give it the best chance of lasting a long time.  Mine did 65000ks before I added the support tie and it's looking OK
