Back on the TTR and have been noticing some odd gearbox behavior. Specifically, un-cooperative shifting gears when idling at standstill. Doesn't like going from Neutral to 1st or 2nd, or indeed shifting down from any higher gears if I coast to a standstill. Lever moves partially but then just feels like it hits a 'block'. No grinding or anything. Just wont shift. If I drag the clutch ever so slightly, however, it pops in. Once moving, all is well.
Have incidentally noticed my countershaft seems to have a LOT of rotational free play. About 2 teeths worth, when in gear. Wondering if this may be linked?
The gearbox is old. VERY old. Almost 20 years and about 50 000 ks.
its normal to have a fair amount of free play in the counter shaft sprocket . 50,000 ks isn't that high for a gear box .
my first thought was a dragging clutch but you description makes it sound like it could be something else having recently put a gear box together they are pretty simple , may be worth waiting to see if anyone else has some ideas .
