Hi Vincent

Is the chrome shaft sound / no rust? you may get away with just a new seal head, also would be a good idea to check the pressure in the bladder.

Hi Steve,

I have replaced the seal head twice with no good results, leaks after a month.

The shaft is does not have any rust, the bladder we used shock oil, its an Oil bladder not Gas.

As it happens, I just received an old shock unit in the post today, as per the attached picture. I have a RAID model, which does not feature the compression adjustment knob on the remote reservoir. My intention is to refurbish my existing shock with new oil (and gas - yes the diaphragm that you refer to actually separates the oil and gas) and use this old donor shock from ebay to supply one or two parts - such as the adjustable remote reservoir. Anyway, I'm no expert on shocks, but Steve and Brian have compiled a very comprehensive document that explains exactly how to dissasemble and refurb the shock, which I intend to follow. You might want to consider having a look at this yourself, there are links from the shop page as well as on here.

If you have not pumped up the remote reservoir with air or nitrogen after reassembly, then it can't really work properly...but then again if all the oil is leaking out, then you have other problems to solve first. Perhaps take the whole shock unit off the bike and take it to bits carefully....clean everything, then come back to us with what you find.

I can't think of anything else that would explain the leak other than perhaps the shaft being worn. Have you got access to a vernier gauge or micrometer that could measure the diameter of the shaft at different points along its length to check for wear Vincent?

Hi Guys,

NO i Dont have access to any of those tools.

"If you have not pumped up the remote reservoir with air or nitrogen after reassembly, then it can't really work properly" - this is what we dint do after changing the Seal twice.I think the imbalance in pressure must have caused the leaks.

Not sure how to achieve this task without the necessary tools.Will try source around

Hi Jeff and sorry I missed your post disbelief

As far as I am ware, no-one sells a replacement shaft although I am sure I read of an owner making his own. But you would need some decent workshop tools to do that methinks!
