It's a great cheap solution to an big expensive problem! i think the sprag is the same as well if i remember rightly , whether it would be any good second hand i dont know.
I didn't think too but did anyone check the "pinions" length compare to the ttr250? Only ask as i didn't and just heard a horrible starter noise, checked it and they were badly warn already and a tooth off the gear between the starter and little idle gear had chopped off.
Luckily i brought a spare set of small idle and gear between that and the starter. No idea why it went, i had a brand new sprag and boss very recently.
If i am honest i cant really remember about overlap, i will have to check next time.
Steve looking at those photos id say they don't look the same based on the attached image. I am sure in real life its easier to assess mind! EDIT: Or does the gear never reach the "B2" area?
The way the pinion broke may suggest it wasnt far enough in as the metal missing at the end of the pinion was larger thelan that at the base. Almost like it chamfers down from base to point.

Rather than the starter gear engaging with the pinion somewhere in its "middle" as on the Majesty, the TTR starter gear runs right on the end which is perhaps a design fault.
I guess it would be possible to elongate the holes in the TTR end plate to allow the starter motor to sit further in?
