Two washers under a large cylinder head hold down bolt
Permalink

Hi all,

When I removed the cylinder head from my 2003, blue tanked TTR250 a couple of weeks ago I found two washers under one of the four large bolts that hold the cylinder head down.

The other three of these bolts each had only one washer each.

All the parts diagrams that I can find on line show only one washer under each of the four bolt heads (Bolts are items 10 & 11, washers are item 12 on the parts diagram that I think I have attached).

Can anyone think of a reason that a second washer might have been used? Should I just discard the extra washer?

Your thoughts appreciated,

Lama

If all the bolts are original and the same length I'd go with one per bolt  .and the spare one aside as a mystery item

Sometimes the washers stick to the head, and are a similar colour to the ally making them hard to spot. I suspect the last person to work on the engine may have thought there was a washer missing as it didn't come out with the bolt, and fitted an extra one when refitting.

Thanks both for your thoughts.
I will leave the second one out, and check the head for any other extra ones!
All the best
