South Wales BOATS / known rides
Permalink

Hi all

I passed my MOD 2 (4th and final test after CBT, theory and MOD1 🙄)  On Monday , so I'm now all legal. Bike is All legal, but I'm just struggling finding BOATS in the S Wales Area.

I'm surrounded by mountains but they are all public footpaths and forestry roads. I can spend 8 hours on these roads and see nobody or I can get chased by forestry commission and police with the risk of getting my bike crushed.😫

I'm using Bing maps(OS view) and looking for places that I can legally have a day out. Any help appreciated even if it means traveling.

Matthew

Many BOATs have been down graded. Look also for ORPAs, on OS maps they are shown by equispaced red dots and most have motorized access - it's usually obvious when you get there if they don't.
If you join GLASS (the 4x4 green lane association) you get access to TrailWise2 which is a nationwide rights of way map. One day the TRF (trail riders fellowship) will pull their fingers out and finish the bike version, but as far as I'm aware, only the Devon TRF are friendly enough and willing enough to give their members easy access to their county definitive map data.
Southernmost S Wales I don't know, but the further north you head, the better the network gets.
Take care if riding alone - better to back out early than have a disaster that noone knows about!
Ride safe,
Simon.
