You can barely tell it apart from the Open Enduro. Take the pic in black and white and it's only the decals that give it away.
Be an interesting comparison.
Have fun

Looks a tidy one even for been outsid, they are great bikes but the only niggle I have is that parts are not as available as with the ttr’s they are basically a drz250 though. Heres mine in action!

TTR and DRZ are pretty much the same bike..
they almost mirror each other in the spec's..
I looked at a few DRZ's before I bought the TTR..

Suzuki kept the oil cooler and don't seem to have starter clutch issues..

Thanks for the replies and info

Going to make a start later today but the ttr is getting a run first with an early morning lap of the forest.

Suzuki appeared to straight out copy the TTR, i still think the TTR is built better. As evidenced by the numbers of TTR's still being used.
Pluses for the Suzuki, oil cooler, can still buy new, plastics still available and availabilty of an aftermarket 300cc piston, no case spiltting required.

is the subframe on the DRZ bolt on bolt off?

I look forward to your thoughts on comparing the two bikes.

Only has the same frame piece unbolt off the left hand side

Did the tank and carby today runs nice

So similar to the ttr

Got a few electrical gremlins I'd say that's why it's been parked for years.  Easy fix but that will be next on the list

Might gear it for longer rides and keep the ttr set up for the max 300k dirt only rides

Still early days though

got it all sorted , ordered parts for the front brake master cylinder and caliper , the rest has been a matter of disassembly clean and reassemble  so nearly done .

the TTR will have a working stable mate soon . its so similar to the ttr is a bit weird working on it next to the ttr in the shed

You could get a set of Open Enduro decals for it if it's making you uncomfortable! Grind off the engine markings and noone will know of your traitorous behavior

If you have never seen Mondo Enduro then find a copy and watch Before the Long way Round there was Mondo Enduro – seven friends riding the world without support and they used Suzuki's DR350 for the trip years before Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman even got on a BMW GS and started off

So similar to the ttr the way it's built but feels very different to ride than the ttr

Ttr is still my favorite

confuseconfuse

I thought the chain was supposed to go over the sprockets to drive the bike forwards, not connecting back wheels preventing either from moving?? confuseconfuse

biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Strange how two similar looking machines can have such differing manners.

Looking good though - both of them. smile

The not ttr has had its first proper outing goes well prob a bit smoother and better mannered on road than the ttr but the ttr is better off-road still very similar

Will have both out this weekend so can jump between them   ttr is still the pick

With the Dr a visitors bike and will keep a few KS off the ttr

Looking forward to your comparison.

I thinks its fair to say the Suzuki engineers didn't start with a clean sheet but straight out copied the TTR.

You have one of the best problems now, which bike should I ride. confusebiggrin

I can say the ttr is a better dirt  bike and my pick  and the Dr is comfy similar power just a bit soft in the suspension than the ttr

It's going to be good to have a choice  and will work on setting the suspension

Defiantly prefer the ttr but a bit if work and there won't be much of a difference

Hijacking your thread here. I'm finally giving up on getting plates on my TTRs, basically impossible in Oregon. So I've come around to the DR350. So far as I can tell the TTR is a better bike for me (99% dirt) but I want to go straight and stop testing my pavement karma. So I'm looking at this 1990 DR350: eugene.craigslist.org/mcy/d/junction-city-1990-suzuki-dr-350s/6981814930.html

Any comments on that Craigslist bike would be much appreciated.

20 lbs heavier for nothing, so far as I can tell. I love the TTR it really bums me out I can't get it plated. But maybe the 350 can work, Boof tell me about your suspension set up if you can. I figure its a better bet than a CRF.

Of course I'd love a WR but the wallet's a bit thin. I'll sell my 2003 TTR if I get this DR, but I'll still have a 2002 TTR.

That bike looks good. I think the DR's are reliable beasts like TTR's. If it starts easy and runs and shifts it should be good. Just check the usual wear items, brakes chains sprockets bearings etc. Should be easy its up on a stand.

I've found the DR is a great bike best front suspension I've ever come across for forest riding  the back is a little soft but super comfy has grease nipples on the rear linkages  so easy maintenance   , and agree as long as it starts and shifts ok much the same as the TTR .

I have trouble deciding which one to ride , would probably say the DR feels a little lighter and more comfy in the bush .

but I just cant shake my TTR loyalty

That's the 250 Les, right? I think the 350 is nothing like as agile as a TTR, but they're a nice torquey engine, and reliable if not abused.

 Yeah mines a 250  haven't seen a 350 here

It's called a dr250r so the start of the drz line Can be bored to 300 without touching the cases

I didn't notice that was a DR250, just like the TTR those are super hard to find plated around here, they went to the DR200 for the dual sport in the mid 90s which I've heard is comparable to the XT250 (gets dissed on reviews ...).

I bought that 1990 DR350S, its really similar to the TTR250 but the comments above so far seem right. more grunt, more slop, longer softer tail, 10-20 extra lbs, I can see how it won't be as agile in the woods. But I like the grunt. Winter project.

To top it off they only made the dr250r 95-97 which makes them a bit rare  . So similar to the ttr so if you find a 350 you should have a good bike that can be registered in your neck of the woods

Took both bikes out today in the dust swapping from one to the other I prefer the ttr but the Dr is good all round just not a ttr biggrin
