As the title suggests, we are off to the Victorian high country early tomorrow morning, 1000kms tomorrow with a couple of WR250R's in the trailer.

Because of the bushfires we had to relocate from Dargo to near Bright

Nice. Should be a great trip, dusty but all the river crossings will be easy. Enjoy the hills.
Where are you staying and riding to??

After visiting queenstown NZ  I now know what hills are biggrin

Maybe Victorian higher country. Must say it's good riding and different than most places in oz

As for the rock it's just a rock but I did ride out there and have a look 11500ks in three weeks no hills out there

Got back late today, we got up to 1730mtrs so not bad for Australia, we had a bad day Wed. One guy dropped the bike on a steep downhill & broke 6 bones in his foot, he did ride back to camp & went to hospital the next day to have it checked.

Another guy hit a rock at 80-90kms & was thrown from the bike, one broken rib & heavy bruising, he was out for a brief period as well, we found him & thought he was dead !!!!

I lost the front in a tight turn & the bike landed heavy on my foot, heavy bruising & swollen to the max, Thursday another rider got his foot caught between the bike & a rock, 2 broken bones in his foot & big toe in two places plus a cracked rib

Fun couple of days

Terry

Sounds like an interesting trip. Probably the same week on my last ride out we were riding up a track in a dry creek bed with a tricky log crossing. Real thick jungle. Big log waist high with slippery tree roots on both sides. We were just helping each other over. One of the guys got the front wheel up so we could skull drag him over. he lost balance whilst stationary, fell left and put his hand on the log. The handlebars landed on his hand and split the webbing of his hand REALLY badly, between the fore finger and thumb . Took a bit to get him and his bike out and off to hospital for some micro surgery. All good now.

Sometimes **** happens, gotta remember all the good rides.

Went & got X-Rays on my foot today & I have a couple of fractures after all, another visit tomorrow to see what can be done, all three of us that suffered foot injuries had Forma Adventure boots, They are nice to wear & walk in but looks like not a lot of support or protection

The low speed off I had should not have resulted in broken bones, might have to review boots

Cheers Terry

Cheers Brian, bit of pain but not real bad & wearing a moonboot a left over from when I broke my leg (same one) I guess I won't be on the bike for at least 3 months perhaps longer so you are all safe from videos for a bit.

Cheers Terry

Looks fantastic riding country. Such a bad run of luck for your group. I hope you all recover quickly.

2 subjects for debate:

1: You admit to riding faster on the WR - should you stick to the TTR?wink

2: Hard boots vs soft? Knee injuries more frequent in harder boots with less flexibility - wear knee braces and next up the line are the hips... or impact and crush injuries to feet and ankles from softer boots. My preference is faster knitting broken bones rather than slow and never totally repaired ACL rips.

In the end, something's gonna get you one way or the other in this dangerous passtime of ours. Should be banned! biggrin

Thanks for the pics,

Get well soon,

Simon.

Yea I do ride faster on the WRR but not a huge amount, perhaps 10-15%,  as for boots,  I knew the Forma ADV boots did not give the same protection as MX boots & I broke my leg 11yrs ago with MX boots on, disadvantage of the MX boots is the lack of feel on the rear brake & with the huge steep downhills there's a good chance of a lock up & an off so it's a choice with the good & bad, is saying that five of the other riders had the same boots (plus the three that got hurt) & did not suffer any damage.

Added to the mix I had a dose of the ****s & didn't eat, but I was riding slower than normal as can be seen on the video, I just rode at my own pace.  I will admit coming down the steep rocky hill before I came off I was buggered.

Yes it is a danger, last year in the high country we had two guys break bones in their feet, so it might be a trend I have to avoid & might give it a miss next year.

I have never seen hills like we had this year they just go forever, have a look at this video, the length of the uphill...one guy broke his foot coming down this hill

Cheers Terry

Didn't know you had hills that long down there And no snow at the top!
Could have done without that jerk going by at warp speed 1:50 in. Gave me a fright, must have been worse for you!

That wasn't even the top, didn't see the WR450F coming & should I have moved over it could have gone pear shaped real quick

Cheers Terry

I recognise the Mt Blue Rag Track entering the Alpine Way. I had a great ride on an XR600, full knobbies, chasing a pair of R1's back to Bright from there. Of course I beat them biggrin.

Were you on an organised tour?
