my son went and bought a 1981 CB650C, $900 and it ran, pretty clean really. he did the carb rebuild without help, we finally got it running yesterda. On to valves. split year model on the carbs that was fun. Stuck in the garage ... but its never a bad time to turn a wrench with your kid

A father and son doing some wrenching together is always great to hear!
That reminds me of my uncle's '82 CJ-7 project we worked on together. He already did all the engine parts when I gave him a hand installing the shocks, brake kit, xd wheels and skid plate. Too bad he had to sell it to finance his business, only if I have money back then.
