The video is of cars and bikes taking part in the annual MCC Exeter Trial - a Long Distance Trial that runs overnight from the Friday and into the following Saturday afternoon. I have competed in the trial a number of times on a TTR and it's a gruelling event!
The hills that are used as marked test sections are all on what we call "green lanes" and can legally use on our trail rides. Tillerton Steep and Simms Hill are favourites.
Watching the cars going up Simms is always good fun but, sadly, none of the flying (literally) Mk1 BDA-engined Ford Escorts are included in the video. Fast forward through the boring bits
Bike number 1, Honda XL185S, has just been rebuilt/refurbed by me. Don't know if it's on the vid - haven't had time to watch yet, but I know he cleared Simms. Dissappointing single lazy dab somewhere else meant no gold medal on it's maiden outing, but the rider has 3 or 4 triples to his name.
Ah, just watched. 1:25 mins could have been the dab!

The Motor Cycling Club (MCC) runs three trials a year starting in January with the Exeter Trial, the Lands End Trial takes place over the Easter weekend and the Edinburgh Trial in early October.
Many competitors have bikes or cars tucked away just to do these three events each year with the hope of winning a Triple Award, that's a Gold Medal for a perfect score of zero in each of the three trials - quite a feat!
Interesting that you built bike No 1 Simon!
A TTR is pretty much the perfect bike to use on these trials. Why not have a go and let us know how you get on. The next trial is the Lands End and that's my favourite as it's always been dry when I have taken part and it's a bit warmer than the Exeter
Thanks for posting. Had to cancel plans to do Exeter Trial on my TTR this year due to elbow op. This has gone really well so I should be up for Lands End. Watched at Bluehills for many years as a kid and always fancied a go, to the point of even buying a car a couple of times, just couldn't get an entry (late 80's). I also have a XL185 which I fancied using but the ancient and unreliable 6v electrics make that an non starter. I am keen on the 12v rewind idea used by mossproof but the TTR will be pressed into service again. I'll keep the forum posted nearer the time if anyone is interested.
