This page of the rear shock megathread is worth a read:

TTboof has fitted WR internals into a ttr shock. Apart from that, I've not heard of anything else that fits. Might be worth reading through the magazine articles threads on Geoff Ballard's TTR modifications to see if there's any more info in there.

As Brian said the wr/wrr internals fit in the shock and make it much better. A suspension guy did mine he said he made a bit of an adjustment to the valving  and 140psi pressure

Interesting...

Ohlins do a complete valve head for the WR & YZF... so if

the wr parts fit the TTR then the Ohlins valve head might/should also..

worth looking into.. It's dam hard to find a shock short enough for the TTR

and when you do the resavoir is always in the wrong place..

 Spot on

The guy that did my shock said the internal bore was the same as the wr/ wrr  just changed the piston and the  valving  slightly

The only reason he didn't use them back in the day was they hadn't been made yet biggrin

Having both a TTR & WRR ( both bought new) I think the TTR rear shock is better than the WRR, only my thoughts of course

Cheers Terry

A rebuild by a professional suspension tuner is well worth it, as others have stated later WRF parts can be substituted inside. Even a service with fresh oil and gas helps.

I had mine done,  reco and revalved, and made it was a huge improvement.

Better again was an aftermarket Wilburs shock. Expensive eyepopping.gif but definitely better than the rebuilt/revalved TTR shock.  Really good.

Terry thats interesting your thoughts on the TTR v WRR shock.   The WR250F (*2015 models on) has brilliant suspension front and rear, way better than the TTR's IMO

I've decided I want to buy a WR250R in the next few years and this mob, apparently do a pretty good job on the suspension. I would pull it and send to them before riding I reckon.

www.teknikmotorsport.com/Yamaha-WR250R-Offroad

About the WR250R
"I had worked on a few of them for customers from 2008, with mediocre results. The forks were a 46mm USD KYB that looked like the 1996-2003 YZ units but had cartridges that were the same size as the YZ85, that’s what the YZ range had in 1988. The shock wasn’t much better. It wasn’t a KYB shock, it’s a Soqi, a wholly Yamaha owned subsidiary company that makes suspension units for the more budget models. The shock has a rebound adjuster straight out of my 1983 YZ125K. That may sound dismal. It’s not. These are very few Adventure bikes with stock suspension componentry I’d describe as anything other than rudimentary."

The ttr and wrr are setup for pillions so I think that is where a lot of issues come in.

Cheers Leigh.

Assuming you are in the UK, have you considered getting a WR250X? I think they are more readily available than the R which I think stopped being sold here before the X. I think they are the same bikes apart from the suspension and wheel size..

Might be easier/cheaper to get an X and configure it like an R?

Just a thought - be interested to see what other people think as I've considered buying a wr250r, then the wr250x to convert, now I'm beginning to think I'd just be better off getting a Suzuki DRZ400(E or S) if I was in the position to get another bike.

Mine is still basicly a ttr shock but the later model parts allowed it to be set up for me

The later midel parts fit but dont change the stroke or leverage angles

My brother has a wr250x its a great  motard has done  60.000ks and going strong in sydney
