Building a motorbike rack for my motorhome - pretty much last thing I need to do before going for a test trip of the van down to Devon to hopefully do some green laning and a bit of surfing..
Going to weld the 10mm steel plates to the sides of the tow bar:
I've already cut the step down at each end so the triangular steel plates will fit.
Hopefully welding it together tomorrow so I'll post the result with any luck.
Nice job watch them foot pegs don't rely on just them strap to the bars as well the mounting bolts on the pegs shear very easy had one shear off just a week or two back
I took the van for a spin today with the bike on it and all was good. I used a 6cm ratchet strap as the main compression strap then 2 endless 2-3cm ratchet straps over the handlebars to pull the front down and compress the suspension.
The turnbuckles are actually no use at all when using the ratchet straps since they are too long when the bike is fully compressed.
You're also totally right about the foot begs being bad attachment points.
I think the eyelets on each side will be useful just to keep the bike steady on loading but I need to either get smaller turnbuckles or come up with other way of using them.
I added a light board today but it looks crap so I'm going to weld some tabs onto the rack and take the components off the light board and attach them directly to the frame, pics to follow.
Still aiming for Monday take off to Devon, but we shall see.
