Well this weekend is the SA 24Hr Trial held every year on the coldest weekend of the year, Sidecars, solos & rally class, They ride 4 laps of approx 250kms per lap & start at mid day Sat & finish mid day Sunday, so the sidecars & solos ride 24hrs but rally class does the 1st & 4th lap. A real test of endurance in the cold & wet. It's been running for years, riders have to carry all spares & tools with them, the bike get checked for lights etc. Bikes must be roadworthy at any stage.
I have attached a video of the event from 2015, but if you search you will find others as they release one every year on youtube, There was a lad riding a TT250R but could only do rally as a P plater he was not allowed to ride during the wee hours.
One of the best racing events anywhere. I've been over to a few now, missed 2018 due to being in Europe. We'll see what happens in 2019.
It's not snowed on me at one of these, yet. Been close though. Funny how it can be nuts freezing and blowing a gale, nuts freezing and calm, warmish and blowing a gale or warmish, drowning in rain and blowing a gale, or not. Really one to be experienced. Look into a competitor's eyes around midnight, then again at 6am. The outfits are mostly on their last lap by then but some of the solos are still on lap 3, the sun is coming up (or the sky is brighter) and there's still a few hours of riding to go.
Some people want the thing to grow, others want it to stay as it is, possibly fearing that, if it gets any bigger, the nay sayers may start to pay attention.

I know a lot of guys that ride the 24hr, also guys that do the 24hr on a outfit, all the outfits are on permits (not full rego) also issues with young P platers riding through the night & the general risk with lack of sleep. They tread a thin rope keeping everyone happy
