Idling and Range

And so the questions start

First air cooled bike, well, apart from an old TS100 many moons ago that I never even gave a second thought. Anyhoo, being air cooled should I switch off rather than idle for a prolonged period? Not that I sit for hours but whats the general consensus.

Also, I'm hoping for around 100 miles before hitting reserve, that seems to be quite doable but just checking.

It wont mind sitting on Idle and as to the range on a tank 100 miles is know problem. I know fuel anxiety I use to laugh at mates on ktm's and Wr 450 who use to come over all funny around 70 miles out then I got the Montesa 4 .4 bloody litres now at least we come over funny around the same time

I bought my TTR in August 2010 and ran it until my deteriorating health made me give biking up totally in May 2016.

In that time I kept a detailed log of every penny I spet on it.

From start to end the bike covered 6,154.9 miles and I'd put in a grand total of 89.4 gallons.

That works out at 68.9 miles per gallon.

I won't tell you how many pounds the whole TTR experience cost me but petrol alone cost £517.19

I'm sorry but I didn't time the idling but it never got too hot that the pipe glowed. no.gif

Well, I purchased mine on 1-6-2018, I've covered 46 miles (44 miles on road and 2 on a green lane) and spent £4.19 on petrol so far

(don't mention the other £100 on renthals, guards, grips, spare levers etc!)

Think i stuffed up last time *hoping* this is correct.
1 UK Gallon = 4.5 litres (rounding)
so, 68.9MPG = 4.1 litres per 100km

I said tank was 12 litres, i believe this was incorrect. I THINK IT'S 10 litres (stock tank inc reserve)????

So, 4 litres = 100km (rounding)

10 litres = 250km Range (approx 230ish km)

$1.50 AUD per litre = $15 to fill. (Fuel prices depends on day/if you have sold a kidney,  a bit give or take either way)
Still good compared to my v8 ute....:)
