Can vouch for the Molesworth Station and Rainbow Road rides as did those a few years ago and are planning on doing them again next Summer (February) as part of a South Island trek.
A Mate (on WR250) and I went over the Great Barrier Island a couple of weeks ago and camped and rode around over there for 3 days. Its a 4.5 hour ferry trip from Auckland and like stepping back into the 1960s. Lots of old Hippies live out there and there is no power system so it is all Generator, Solar and Wind power. A great Irish Pub which recently won a worldwide award for the best, most distant (from Ireland I presume), Irish Pub in the World. Curried Goat was the special one day !! I had Fish and Chips !!
On our first South Island trip (several years ago) I had my first serious "off" on the Porika Track. My right shoulder still grinds and creaks abit but Doc says it is ok and silly old buggers shouldn't be doing what ! was doing anyway.
