Was unlucky enough to drop the TTR yesterday. The side cover for the starter motor struck a rock quite hard. I didnt think too much of it initially but after a while i noticed a slow leak of oil from the bottom hex bolt. I thought id just dislodged the seal and limped her home to check it out.

On removal of the hex bolts i noticed the bottom one was loose. Thinking maybe just a loose bolt. Unfortunately after removing the cover and gears inside i noticed there was a definite crack in the case where it runs along the bolt hole, top and bottom about 1cm long. (Sorry i havent got a photo yet, its at a mates house)

Just a thought before i go about replacing the whole left side cover, anyone think something like JB WELD would be any good for a repair? Ive seen youtube vids of repairs on crank cases using it.

There is a good chance JB Weld will sort it but this stuff Alutight or similar is the best home fix low heat do it with a blow torch at home have used it to fix Engine case's before with a 100 % success it loves cracks and fills like brazing steel. take your time cleaning it. A dish washer is best score it up a bit with sharp knife point and needle file wash a 2nd time clean with panel wipe or similar before you try it.

Brian its good stuff its got me out the **** with stripped threads a hand full of times as well. Cam dare i say look on Goggle AUS there is lots of makers of this sort of rod out there the rods I have hear are Durafix Ebay

Worst / hardest fix I ever did was on the Timing plug hole on the Harley after stripping the thread in the crank case I did it with the bike on its side with the oil still in the motor. I'm thinking this stuff would fix a stripped sump plug on the TTR if you flipped the bike onto its handle bars like a push bike

The JB seemed to work ok on the crack so far. Haven't taken it for a good ride as yet, but after idling for 5 or 10 and a quick ride around the yard, No leaks. Fingers crossed.
