You can't beat either a pragmasis or almax chain.

They're pricey but totally worth it, best money can buy. Hardest chains for anyone to get through.

Get at least a 16mm chain as it's then difficult to get bolt croppers big enough.

I've got one of each, both the 16mm variety, teamed with a ground anchor makes the bike very secure.

You're looking at atleast £160 for each combo, but it's a decent investment.

The bigger chains don't work well as carry chains as they're hefty!

They are expensive, but they're the best on the market and very hard to get through!

They're more of an investment as you can re-sell them for the same cost on eBay and make your money back if you no longer need it.

Most other chains can be got through like butter

As said more you spend the better you get but a cordless grinder will win a fight with even the best chain it's just a matter of time I have this type of chain an lock.
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAMMOTH-THATCHAM-APPROVED-CHAIN-PAD-SHACKLE-LOCK-180-CM-AND-RS-GROUND-WAL-ANCHOR-/161224491430
six bikes an six chains as the bikes are parked an kept it gives me three chains round each bike its a bastard with all the keys to get one bike out but till they bring back Death by anal 4x2 insertion for the thieving pond life scumbags that are aloud to walk among as I will have to put up with it.

An as a ps I have pr lights round the house with camera's  the bastards still nicked the wheel trim's off my van a year or two back an a bucket off the drive this week..............

A rape alarm is quite effective, clip it on so when the bike is moved the pin drops out however, you do get what you pay for as regards chains.

What are you looking for? A chain to carry on the bike and use out and about? Or security for home?

Anything under 13mm link size can be easily cropped by hand tools. Over 13mm it gets harder as they need professional bolt croppers. Over 16mm you need bolt croppers that cost a few grand to buy so unlikely to see them.

Everything is like butter when power tools are involved.

Various Thatcham approved chains getting cropped quickly.

www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php

Someone asking about mammoth chains on bikechatforum.

All chains are generic ones probably made in China, which will only deter opportunistic thief's. They all tend to be under 13mm, usually 10/12mm. So i think unless its an almax/pragmasis... you're generally going to get the same product with anything you buy.

I'm happy with the Mammoth ones most of the thief's are Opportunists and if its a pro then he's going to get what he's come for with a 18v Dewalt Grinder it will part any chain in a minute with a nice cutting disk.
In the end all you can do is just try an make it as hard an time consuming to nick as you can an maybe you will get the time to get the gun from its safe then the cartridges from there safe and let Mr under an Mr over stop them.
Like the Dog Martyn I have two Cats that would hound any thief to death till they feed them in the Night

insurance.

Anything can be stolen with a cordless angle grinder for $150.

My only advice is put multiple things on there, 2 cheap disc locks, chains, steering lock blah blah - you can only slow them down and they might go elsewhere.

get a high tensile wire cable...

bolt cutters won't cut a cable... they just crush it...

but a battrey grinder will cut both a cable and chain...

put a disc lock on it.... it's a lot harder to carry a 130kg bike away than push it...

I never have mine out the front of my house

and if I go away I take the cdi unit out of it

also bolted a big Chain to the floor and welded the nuts on might slow them down if they get past the dog

Must admit my two dogs sleep in the garage too. However social media is an awfully good way of telling thieves you are not at home. I also never wash the bikes out front at the weekend . The cars/van are always parked to make a carry out hard. Another one is dont hang the keys by the door or visible from a window bung them in a drawer out of sight. Paranoid? me?

Johny, go for either but hurry up!  aww

The amount of time you're dithering in what to buy is only extending the length of time your bike's unprotected and ripe for nicking. hmm

At this rate it'll be nicked and not there when summer gets here and you want to get out trailing. no
