Hi everyone I am in the process of making my ttr fully legal and still need a brake light. I found several switches from parted ttrs but have no idea how to hook them up. I see that the tail light has 3 bullet connectors but the switch has a red connector that looks like the male end of the headlight connector. I'll attach pictures of the switch. Anyone know how I can hook it up?
Thanks I'll check if my bike has the connector. Dumb question but the connector would be under the gas tank with most of the wiring, right?
Not very clear but you can just see the connector in behind the shock reservoir. No need to take the tank off - if your loom has the connector:
The feed wires to the tail light cluster have connectors just under the rear of the seat on the LH side. They should be covered with a black plastic slip over sheath.
I found a photo that shows the frame fixings!
I will be very interested to know if you have the connector and frame holes on your TTR please!
Ok so I just looked at the bike and it doesn't look like their is a connector. It seems weird that the brake pedal has the tab for the brake switch spring but there is no place to plug one in nor is there a mounting hole. I did some testing and found that I could just put the switch leads between any one of the three bullet connectors from the harness and the three going to the rear tail light. But, the light stays off until the switch is pressed. (I unplugged one of the wires and plugged it back in to simulate a switch opening and closing) I could do this but I would like the light to be dim not off until the pedal is pushed. Any ideas?
It would be useful to know what wires go into your tail/brake light assembly. Any chance of a photo to help us help you?
On TTRs with brake lights fitted as standard there should be a blue wire (constant live when ignition on) feeding the tail light element (5w) and a yellow wire (21w - bright!) to the brake light element in the twin filament bulb.
When the ignition is on you need to have a live feed to the brake light switches. Operating the front or rear brake levers makes a circuit to the yellow feed to the brake light and then to earth via the black wire.
Have you got the three wires (yellow, blue and black) feeding into the rear light cluster and is the bulb a twin-filament one like this

Ryan, The rear bulb has two fillaments in it. A thick one which ONLY lights when the brake is pressed .... AND a thin one which is constantly on as a running light.

I had a look at several US wiring looms on eBay and they don't seem to have the wiring and connector for the brake switch. There is a similar connector on the US loom but I have learnt that it feeds the simple US headlight on/off switch.
Here are a couple of photos I copied (and edited) from the US eBay ads:
They all have the tail light connectors - an example below.
To fix the switch to your frame, place the switch in position on the frame (as per my earlier photo) and mark where the top little tab is and the hole for the fixing bolt. Drill the smallest hole you can that will take the tab and then decide whether you are going to use something like a 6mm rivet nut to take a short bolt or maybe a smaller hole to take a strong hex-headed self tapping screw/bolt.

the correct one the Number is 12v 1157 duel filament , has staggered pins and two connectors on the base with the base being the earth its not uncommon to see 12v 1156 single filament bulbs fitted looks the same but one filament and pins arnt staggered is not easy but the 1156 can be put in and the single pin on the base connects the two pins on the bulb holder together causing weird stuff to happen

My fault for trying to help with a US loom issue when I have only ever seen them in photos and have no first-hand knowledge
To try and make up for it, I searched out a US headlight switch and found that it is totally different to our UK switches in that it is just a simple on/off switch. Also, it is clear that the connector on the US looms that I thought were for the brake light switch does in fact feed the US headlight switch as shown in your photos.
I can't see where on the US loom the yellow wire at the rear exits the loom - any ideas? It may not go anywhere but, if so, why did Yamaha include it
The US wiring diagram doesn't show it connecting to anything!

PS It would be good if an American owner could step up to the plate on this issue and confirm that I am pointing Ryan in the right direction - or not - as the case might be!

Hi there, My front brake sensor (The one that turns the brake light on and off) seems to be stuck on all the time but only when i pull the lever all the way forward will it shut off but once returned to stationary position it will stay on. Any thoughts on how to fix this or should I just buy new levers?
Have you got the spring fitted between the lever and master cylinder?
If you have a can of WD40 or similar with a tube then give the "inside" of the brakes witch a good squirt to wash away any possible dirt that may be stopping the switch working properly.
The other possibility is that the locating tab is broken or not fully in so check that as well.
