Ok guys, new here So I'm sorry if this has been covered. I got my hands on an 04 blue 250 pretty much free in a trade as boot. It was bored .20 over and when they put it back together it wouldn't run. After I tore into it, ended up being bent exhaust valves. Got all that fixed. Then the carb was very dirty, and of course had the customary broken spot for the float pin. Used quick steel to mild a new one and works great. When I got it all back together, it only wanted to run on choke with a very high idle. I saw a thread on here about that being an issue with the pilot jet. So last night I went to take all the jets out and ended up snapping a brass nut in half. At this point I'm considering a new carb. Anyone have experience with switching carbs?

As John says, it is rare for carbs to come up for sale - at least in the UK - so it's worth trying to fix yours.
Was it the nozzle as shown in the photo below that broke? If so, is there nothing of it showing to get some vice grips on?
If you do go for a replacement then swapping over the carbs is straightforward - see http://www.ttr250.com/Removing_carb/TTR_carb_removal.htm - there are also a couple of videos I made showing removal and replacement. Also, I need carb parts for a couple of rebuilds I am doing so would be happy to buy your old one if the cost and shipping are sensible money
I did a quick search on Mikuni VM and didn't get any results so maybe no-one on here has done it. In which case I doubt you will get answers on appropriate jetting
Petenz started an excellent thread on a 32mm flat slide carb he fitted to his TTR here http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t61885498/32mm-carb/ - defintely worth a look if you are seriously considering swapping out the TTR carb!
If I was in your position, I would drill out the remains of the broken nozzle and fit a new one. No need to worry then about jetting, making up a connector for the airbox and sorting out a different cable setup
If you are worried about doing the drilling yourself then find a machine shop to do it for you. Should be a simple job as its brass and will drill easily. A lot cheaper and easier than fitting a Mikuni.

PS Full rebuild of original TTR250 carb detailed here http://ttr250.com/Carb/TTR250_carburettor_strip_and_rebuild_guide.htm
My local machine shop wants 50 USD to drill it. Couple that with the fact that a rebuild kit and nozzle will be around an additional 50$, I'm confident I can find a brand new carb for slightly more than that. Mikuni has a TM and VM series of square slides that look nice. Are the stock carbs Teikei Y30P? And if so I'm guessing that's a 30mm?
I appreciate the recommendation John but I don't sell TTR parts any more. Steve is the new and used worldwide TTR parts supplier supremo and has been since June 2016
