Oh dear - I am nearly a year late in posting Robin's event report - the 2018 Land's End will run on 30 March! disbelief

Anyways up - enjoy his joy/misery biggrinbiggrin

"Hi Brian!

I thought I would let you know I made it down to Lands End on my rebuilt stolen bike.

Brilliant fun - it was terrific! Definitely want to do it again.

Don’t think I cleared many sections. Haven’t been off road for ages.

Very wet and misty through the night but glorious in the day time.

Blue Hills was easier than it could have been or I was lucky? It was dry so that made it easier than the rainy misty night time sections. Very pretty.

Had a few dramas with multiple punctures. Problem running too low pressure.

I did it with my friend Giles who was on a 47 year old Triumph.

Pic attached of me and friend Giles on his old Triumph.

The TTR really is just about the best bike to do that event on eh?

I guess the many Serows might be a touch more agile on some tests but also slow on the road. Was doing 65 /70 on the haul back before my multiple punctures.

Ah, the punctures.

At 3am at about 50/60mph my rear tyre came off the rim. Careered all over the road. No on coming traffic thank goodness. Bounced off the kerb. No one behind hit me.

Yes it is tubeless. But I had been running low pressures, eg 15psi with out pumping up again. so I would have been a contender for the Darwin prize if I had died like I thought I was going to.

Up at the front, I run Michelin 4mm UHD tubes plus 2 x Motion Pro lite locs. And I’m not sure what caused the odd puncture. Not seen the like before. Compression puncture or something?

See pics. Any ideas?

Then my new spare I used had a puncture. From being on my bag so long, a hole had worn on a fold.

Then I managed to try using Araldite instead of rubber cement. The tubes looked the same. Ah!

Cleaned that off and started again. Then it started to rain!

Fix didn’t hold.

Wheel off again.

Fixed original puncture.

Getting dark

Lasted another hour and then let go again

And so on.

It was a fun night.

Got in at 4am.

Robin
