The brackets I have here won't fit, looks like I will have to start from scratch. I have a tank here, so I will be getting on with this next week sometime.

Good to hear as I'm expecting a tax rebate soon and an acerbis tank is on my shopping list if I can get the brackets too.

You could try Ed the angry Pom, he is going the sell the TTR & could do with the money, he fitted a tank before going bush & is whinging about the cost & wasted money.
Think of it as a public service, buy the tank & he can put it towards an air fare to piss off back to the UK LOL

Found one brand new for $275 aud.
Around £162 gbp.

Picked it up north of Adelaide, an hour and a half away. Still in bag. Apparently the bloke was going to fit it to his TTR but it was too much trouble making the brackets. As long as it is all good (like no crossed threads / looks fine and all kit is untouched minus the fitting bags been opened) it was a bargain!

Hey Threshold.

I've got the zen tank mounting kit to suit the blue tank models. I wont be getting a tank for a bit so - just an idea. I could post you the mounting kit to see what you need to do to mod it or change to suit your OE, and make your own.

Cost you the postage to and back from Tasmania?

Cheers Leigh.

Work on the fitting kit went really well today.

Took 3 of us just over 4hrs to get the fitting kit worked out for the OE. Looking really good, amazing how long it takes to get a good mock up worked out and I reckon it will be another 4hrs work to get it good enough to take the prototype to my engineers.

I think it fits fantastic and will be a very strong and well built bit of kit. Brian took lots of photos, so hope to have some on here soon.

Thanks to Brian and Bob for their help today.

I can confirm that it was a tricky job getting the fit angles and tank height to look right.

Steve did the work whilst Bob and I just stood around drinking his coffee and making suggestions - some of which were actually useful wink

Bri came around today, as I did not get time to work on the fitting kit Sunday.

He was a great inspiration and gave me a good kick up the backside! I really needed itwink The kits are looking fantastic and the Acerbis tank fits so well on the bike and really sturdy, I may be making these to fit the blue ones as well.

Prototype fitting kit now with my manufacturer, he has promised to have one made by the end of the week, so I can test fit it, before production begins, so not long now.

Hopefully Bri will share the photos that he took today (pretty please)smilesmilesmile

Steve

I can't believe how long it has taken from start to finish to get the prototype fitting kit together Steve! Good luck to anyone else that tries to make a kit from scratch....

The Acerbis tank that most owners used is the Honda XR650L one we have developed the fitting kit for.

The challenge has been to get the the tank to fit the TTR frame and not only look "right" but be as good a fit to the TTR seat as possible and to be able to carry a full load of fuel safely across the washboard without fatiguing the mounting system.

We think the fitting system we have devised using the front engine mounting brackets is about as good as you can get.

Acerbis tank fitting kit 9.jpeg

We had a couple of "fails" on our journey as you will see from the number of holes in this early attempt disbelief  Rest assured that the production versions will look somewhat neater biggrinbiggrin

Acerbis tank fitting kit 8.jpeg

By happy coincidence the original TTR rubber "bung" petrol tank mounts help keep the Acerbis tank firm:

Acerbis tank fitting kit 6.jpeg

Acerbis tank fitting kit 7.jpeg

The only frame modification required is a simple one - to bend the horn mounting tab back through 90 degrees. A simple enough job - we used a pair of adjustables to do the bending and practiced on a scrap frame before committing wink   The alternative would have been to make the LH mount much narrower but we didn't want to lose any strength in the mounting as 22 litres of fuel weighs quite a lot!

Acerbis tank fitting kit 2.jpg

Those are the only photos I have at this stage as a pucca set will be taken when the first kit comes off the production line and is fitted for real.  Steve is also threatening to make a video of it...

Can't wait to see it all to come together smile

Brian

Not very good, they sent their copy of my prototype back to me and the brackets are wrongcry I will be going to see them Monday morning and look at what has gone to be done.

We will get there in the end and once sorted production should be easy enough.

Looking promising Brian.

The home-made fitting that I had on my white oe was very similar except it only picked up on one engine mount bolt.

That said, it stood up to plenty of abuse and falling off, so yours should be well up to the job.

I'll be interested to see how you do the rear mount.

Giles

Almost there, just this one hole needs aligning and the brackets will be in production. Can't believe how strong the mountings feel on the bike, gonna be bomb proof😁

Should be able to get the kits done by next week, then just need to do the fitting instructionsmile

Will retail for £49 including all the parts and bolts, washers needed, which is the same as the ZenOverland kits.

These really are premium kits, made from 4mm aluminium and should be able to withstand anything thrown at themsmilesmilesmile Only launching your bike off a cliff would damage them!

A really neat trick that has been done, is that the top seat lug that goes into the metal tank has been incorporated into my design, making the seat lock into a special fixing plate in the kitsmile

Spent hours and nearly lost the will to live, easy enough if you are making one, but then when taking it to a manufacturer it is back and forth, as they need to be perfect for production.
