Happy belated birthday Shaun!  BTW I tell the wife that I save working on the bike as I don't have to pay mechanics.  It works.  Sort of. ;)

Great News - I started the bike up this weekend! 

 

I filled with oil, turned it over by hand a coupel of times to get the oil moving and check for any possible fouls. nothing. All clear to attempt start! 

Hooked the bike up with jumper leads to my car, pressed the button and...... Nothing! Had a earth issue and the fuse popped.. Fixed that in 5 min and attempted again.

Bike turned over about 5 times, then.... Boom, it started!

Motor sounds fine, and revs up quite smoothly.  But I cant get a stable idle on the bike. it either idles too high, or too low with a little bit of a backfire and then dies. 

What i then saw was that the carb is leaking petrol. When i stripped the carb, i made sure all the seals were in good nick, and a was very meticulous when i put it all together again. looks like it might have to come out again!

Good and bad news!

If you have a good gasket on the float bowl and the petrol isn't leaking from the overflow then the usual culprit is the diaphragm cover. Did you face the little plate and fit new O rings? Occasionally it is necessary to face the carb body where it sits. I use some wet and dry in a steel ruler to make sure I keep the surface flat. If there is a slightly raised edge there it can stop the cover tightening down properly.

Hello Everyone

 

Sorry for the gap on posting update on my bike. Was extremely busy last couple of weeks. 

Bike is done. and had a good trip during the December holidays. 450km in 13 hours. (lot of stopping)  

Bike is running smooth. really nothing to complain about. got approx 250km on a tank of fuel, could be more, but last couple of drops stuck on wrong side of tank... 

Drove form PE - Hankey - Patensie  - Baviaans and back!
