Do any 263cc owners think their bikes would be as well suited as the standard bore ttrs for a long trip?
I imagine standard would be more reliable and slightly better on fuel however as i'llbe replacing the piston rings etc soon anyway I am tempted by a little more power.
Ive had a read through a few threads on here but can'tdecide what to do.
If you weren't travelling then I would have no hesitation in recommending the 263cc upgrade.
However, that leaves you no room for movement if your engine (God forbid!) swallows sand or water , or it seizes badly from poor fuel or whatever. It would be handy to have the option to go to the next oversize piston/rebore if need be.....
I think you raise a very valid point, I'll stick to whatever size its currently running at and at a later date hopefully get an 350 kit if all goes well with that development!
Personally I reckon the 263 would be ok. The TTR's are plenty durable so I'd rather take a fresh 263 than a higher mileage 250. Worse case scenario you would need to source another barrel, but highly unlikely.
The 263 is torquier than the 250 so like most 250 big bores doesn't need as many revs. So I'd argue they last longer.
