Hi guys, been a member for a while and can't remember if I said hi on joining, so hi smile

I've got a 96 raid, which I have been restoring and is now on the road biggrin but I've just started to have a staring fault. It just clicks when pushing the button. It'll bump ok, then start on the button again mostly! I'm thinking solenoi, tho' maybe starter bushes. Thanks for any pointers, cheers, Brad. Brighton.h

Easy use a test light and see if there is power at the starter when it just clicks if there is power check the starter . if no power check the solenoid

If no test light bridge the big contacts on the solenoid with a screw driver if the starter is OK  its solenoid if no go check the starter

Yeah don't forget the battery again an easy check .if it's not up to the job .when you press the button if it's not OK the lights will dim right down or go out .if its the solenoid or starter  brushes it will click but not dim the lights . eg no current draw

If you short the two terminals on the back of the solenoid and it turns the starter then it is the solenoid, if not the it is the brushes in the starter.
