I can hardly believe that it has been over 7 months since a have been green laning on my TTR!

I met up with a couple of mates this afternoon but it was more of a social and catch up than a serious trail ride - which was absolutely fine by me after such a long lay off.

Nice to have the heated grips on the chilly road journey to our meeting base wink

I didn't get much of a chance to take photos once we got going but here are a few:

First up the compulsory picture of my clean TTR before setting off biggrin

I have been tripping over a sump guard in the garage for months and it was only just as we set off that I realised it would probably have been a bit more effective bolted on to the TTR! disbeliefdisbelief

My mates were Roger aboard a Yam XT250 and Jim on his WR450F.

We weren't long into the ride when we had to stop at my Woodsy's in Colaton Raleigh who do THE best pasties and coffees hereabouts. Sadly there were no pasties left in the hot cabinet as it was 2.30pm but the coffee was fab as usual.

Whilst we were there we heard a fabulous sound approaching and a gentleman on this lovely 1935 Rudge Special pulled up so our coffee stop was even longer than usual as we had a good natter with him.

The lanes were in perfect condition having started to dry out nicely after recent rain. Nice and grippy and no dust - perfect!

We have a favourite spot to stop at and just soak in the view:

We started threading our way back to base when Roger's chain broke so he had a tow the last mile and a bit back to his place. Broken split link but no real damage other than a slightly bent case saver - phew smile

After removing the chain and inspecting for damage it was time for a cuppa and another natter before setting off for home with rain threatening.

The TTR ran perfectly and the engine and gearbox were spot on. Steve has the whole unit for sale in his shop here and I have been running it on extended test since a rebuild but it would be nice if it sold so that I can put my 325 engine unit back in wink

I took the opportunity last summer to revamp the TTR and for some reason returned the suspension to standard in the process. I wound the spring off a bit this morning (just removed the battery - it was possible with the battery box still fitted) and dropped the forks back through the yokes about an inch but am still catching my boot on the seat or back mudguard getting on and off so one thing I am definitely going to do after today is refit my lowering link!

good to see you back out, we're lucky here as we can ride all year round.

I noticed all 3 bikes are running a block pattern rear tyre ? I'm running the standard dual sport tyres on the WRR & D606's on the TTR but never thought of the combo you are running

You look to have had a lovely stroll around, Brian, it would have been a pleasure to see you, Rog and Jim.  wink

If you'd swung round via B.S. you could have marvelled at our NEW front door and newly decorated porch - completed yesterday.  

We may not have pies but Liz's flapjack is tasty.

Most UK trail riders do most of their riding from September to April and then pack in for the summer. I like to do it the other way around and am willing to put up with the hedges being overgrown and some of the lanes plagued by walkers wink

Trial rear tyres (usually MT43)  and knobbly fronts (I like Comp IV) are the best combo for Devon lanes as they can cope with slate and smooth rock whereas a knobbly just spins up on those surfaces.

We pretty much passed your door Martyn but Roger was on a mission to get us back to base as rain threatened!
