So, last night my TTR was stolen/joy-ridden. After it not being where I left it, I searched a couple streets and found it parked in one only a couple hundred metres away. They'd broken the steering lock, and then opened up the ignition housing on the other side of the key insert and cut the ignition wires. Not good with electrics but they wrapped one wire around another and that acted as like a fuse or something?(thats what the police said) and then were able to kick start it with no key.
Here is what it looks like
Does anyone know what I can do now? Should i just solder the wires back together and replace that broken ignition cover ?
Wow, unlucky in the theft, but so lucky to find it again in one piece! The only consolation when a bike is recovered as a wreck is that the thieving bast*#d might have done himself a serious injury in the process!
As suggested, just solder the wires back on if possible. New plastic covers are available to make it neat again. Unfortunately bypassing the switch and snapping the steering lock is too easy on a ttr. Heavy chain through the frame to something sturdy is the only way to hope to persuade them to look elsewhere really
If you need a new steering lock see https://totallyttrs.com/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Products/TTR-0500
Sorry to hear that mate.
It's such a ****. It plays on your mind so much, i.e. If I caught him , what would I do to him etc. A real bad taste.
Watch out they don't come back for a second helping ☹️☹️
I own many bikes, none of them are very hard to steal stock. The only way to keep it from being driven off is to stop the bike from running. Every one of my bikes have a kill switch hidden on the bike. They usually pop the ignition just like yours was, but never get anywhere! The bike will rotate till the battery is dead, but never start. Just cut the ignition coil wire and install a rocker switch and hide it VERY WELL. if they aren't planning on parting it out at a chop shop and have a truck to throw it in, it'll still be there in the morning where you left it. :)
