Hey guys, I've never changed this stuff and it's long overdue. What size is the nut that holds the front sprocket on? I need to buy a socket that'll fit should i use loctite on the nut or just the screws holding the back sprocket on?
The front has a tab washer which locates on the splines and folds up the side of the nut. So make sure you order a new one. Can't remember the nut size.
I had a quick look in the repair and maintenance stickies to see if we had a "how to" for fitting new chain and sprockets but we don't seem to. Found these two items which may be helpful though
I also had to replace the front sprocket so I took a leaf out of Jarrah and Lin's books and tried a variation of their chain trick to hold the sprocket whilst taking off and replacing the 30mm sprocket nut.
I wrapped an old chain around the sprocket and clamped it together with Mole (Vice) grips. I used a bit of wood to protect the engine stand and engine case.
It worked a treat so thank you guys!!!!
If your chain needs shortening see http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t55468334/fitting-a-new-chain-which-needs-shortening/
How in the hell do I get the front sprocket nut off. Tried everything. Even my big gorilla mate couldn't get it off with me on the rear brake and the back wheel chocked with wood. What do I need to do? Rattle gun maybe?
