Just joined up and thought I better say hello. I'm lucky that I live about 5 minutes away from about 800 square kilometres of state forest with awesome riding, lots of single track, thick bush hills creeks etc. I've been riding offroad for about 40 years.
My two sons now also ride with me and we have a shed full of Yamahas Three WR's and the TTR. Oh and a CCM404 which is one of about 10 in Australia but its in pieces.
The TTR250 came about for the kids to ride, and we've slowly done it to the point that I like riding it as much as the WR's. Its been stripped right down and modded for full off road riding. Have done some engine and suspension mods, (263cc and USD forks (CCM)) powder coated frame, stripped it right down to save as much weight as possible including a lithium battery and alloy rear sprocket.
Anyway I've enjoyed this forum for a while and thought I'd better join up and say G'day!!
Thanks guys. The best part of riding with your kids is you have more bikes to ride. We do a lot of 2 and three day rides and I always end up on the TTR at the end. Gotta love the comfy TTR seat over the modern bike seats.
Welcome to the forum Steve. Would love to know more about your fork mods/layout. Did you do the work or did the bike come with the WPs on, and are they an improvement over stock? Closeups, we need closeups
The fork swap, i have only just had it done. I had the CCM404 in the shed and kept eyeing off the forks and Brembo brakes. Mmmmmm. I hadnt ridden that bike for years and I couldn't sell it. Even though its a good bike it just isnt worth much here coz it cant be registered. The DRZ motor and carby alone goes for good money so I decided to part it out. And donate the entire front end to the TTR. Front wheels Brembos braided line the lot.
Measurments of the TTR and the 404 and it looked like everything should fit up reasonably well. I ended up going to my local shop (mate who I ride with) and he did the conversion for me, it only need the CCM bearings milled about half a mm, spacers and a steering stop made up which just bolted on where the CCM one had been on the lower triple clamps.
Whilst it was in the shop we thought stuff it do the 263 cc as well. It getting some head porting at the moment. Should be ready next week, curse the Australia Day holiday in true Aussie spirit they are taking Thursday and Friday off..
I'll put up some pics of the forks and more details when shes home. It better cool down so I can go for a ride, I usually stop riding in summer was 36 C today.
And I'm trying to find a Keihin carby off a CRF150R but they are scarce.
Oh and I'll get him to run it up on the dyno, I havent seen a dyno sheet on a TTR250 before.
Where abouts in Australia are you? The 263cc kit sounds interesting. Was yours a bit tired or just interested in some extra poke? And a fancy front end too! Lookout!

Hey Pricey,
Loving the 263. Runs and idles perfect. Sounds better too, could be the extra compression and porting?
It definitely is stronger all over especially the bottom and mid. Lofts the front much easier.
I didn't instal it my mate at the shop did it all.
It feels a bit like an XR400 to ride, strong bottom and works better to be short shifted using the bottom and mid rather than revving it.
I would recommend it especially as a cheaper alternative to the 325.
