Welcome to the forum!
In use, the forks tend to build up air pressure. The valves are there to release this pressure. With no weight on the bike just press the centre bit like letting down a tyre valve to release any built up pressure. Not doing this occasionally doesn't really do much harm. You might just notice the forks feel harder.
Ride safe,
Simon.

Moss proof- they are for pressure relief on some bikes but not the ttr. As Steve has said they are for adding pressure. I'm a large mammal and have found 3psi in them awesome.
EDIT-they are for adding preload according to the manual see page 3-40

Very true, but my bike builds up pressure in the forks over a couple of days hard riding so I release the pressure with the valves
Well there you go. Never experienced that myself. I probably ride too slow
Mine builds up pressure part of getting ready to ride is to bleed the air
I do run the fork oil a bit higher(10mm) which gives the same effect as a bit of air without the forks topping out when you try a couple of pounds of pressure
I check mine every few weeks and haven't noticed any extra pressure build up. I have brand new fork seals though so maybe mine aren't letting air in (so to speak) - as to add pressure, air has to be getting in from somewhere. Or as I said, maybe you guys work the forks more than I do. Interesting though.
if yer going use them as air bleeders... you should bleed them a few time though out the ride
as the air heats up & exspands...
another little point.... the forks have oil seals.... air will slowly migrate passed them......
