Bike was dumping fuel, now wont idle.

Hey Guys.

I have been having a whole plethora of issues with my bike, but knocking them out one step of a time. Most recent, I replaced the float, and float Needle valve assembly, since the carb was overflowing fuel when I would turn the fuel on. That issue is solved now. But now my issue is that the bike will not idle right. It is very inconsistent and sporadic RPM changes that always results in it dying. When I pull the choke, it will rev up high, and then low, and then high and then die.

Any ideas on things I can check? I don't know if something is just out of adjustment or if its a way bigger issue. I appreciate any ideas.

Hi Nathan

Always eliminate the obvious first wink

Could the boot between the head and carb be leaking? The rubber can sometimes separate from its aluminium stub. Unless it has got obvious movement (in which case replace it) then the only other way to test it in situ is to spray it liberally with something like WD40 when the engine is running and see if the engine note changes or you get white smoke out of the exhaust.

I see you have had the carb apart. Did you clean the pilot jet? Not just a spray with carb cleaner and blowing out with an airline but a light ream with a bit of copper wire to clear any old petrol deposits.

Hope that helps.

Brian
