Looking for someone to rebuild raid 250 carb
Permalink

Hi I am hoping someone can help, I am in London Essex, I have a Teikei TTR 250 Raid carb 1995 and I am looking for someone or company to rebuilt it and hopefully with ultrosonic cleaning :) I am not at that level of confidence yet and I don't have all the tools. The drain screw needs tapping out hence me wanting to rebuild, the bike has been sitting for a long time. I have removed the carb already so any help would be very much appreciated thanks :)

Hi Sonya

If you change your mind and have a go at servicing your carb yourself then I hope the following information will be useful.

If you are in the TRF (Trail Riders Fellowship) there may be someone local to you that can help. However, you may need to take your float bowl to a local engineer to have them remove the drain screw.

Steve's business, Totally TTRS, doesn't sell a carb service kit as such but these are the parts most frequently found in need of replacement:

- Carburettor float bowl gasket - http://my-eshop.info/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Products/TTR-0056

- Carburettor diaphragm - http://my-eshop.info/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Products/TTR-0042

- the two small O rings that sit alongside the diaphragm - http://my-eshop.info/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Products/TTR-0043

- side plate O ring http://my-eshop.info/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Categories/Shop/Carburettor_parts

- carb top gasket http://my-eshop.info/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Products/TTR-0058

Tip - smooth off the face of the diaphragm "plate" on a bit of wet & dry paper placed on a dead flat surface to get rid of any dirt/corrosion before putting it back on. This will improve sealing.

You may not need the following parts but they are quite common purchases for owners rebuilding their carbs:

- Carburettor float needle valve set - http://my-eshop.info/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Products/TTR-0045

- Carburettor float bowl drain screw set - http://my-eshop.info/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Products/TTR-0044

The main and pilot jets usually only need cleaning rather than replacing. The pilot jet has a very small hole and is difficult to clean properly so it's best to make sure it is clear by poking it through with a piece of copper wire that won't damage the brass of the jet.

See http://my-eshop.info/epages/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/699105d9-e4cc-4b32-b236-84e72cd67f84/Categories/Shop/Carburettor_parts . This lists all the carb parts Steve can supply.

I ultrasonically clean the carbs I rebuild but it is more for aesthetics than anything else.

Access to a good compressor and airline to make sure the galleries etc are all clear is useful.

Be careful with carb cleaner as it has a reputation for damaging rubber parts.

Depends how much you want to spend on it because if the carb is really bad as parts need replacing it soon add up. The diaphragm is £26 on its own

That is true but s/h carbs are like hen's teeth - rare as heck!

Also, a s/h carb is likely to need the same amount of work so I think it would still be a good investment to refurb the existing carb.
